Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position will report to the Department of Computing and Information Technology located at the Cheyenne Campus. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: provide administrative support; serve as a receptionist (answering the phone, answering questions and assisting office visitors); assist students with the completion of forms; sort incoming mail and distribute both internal and external mail; maintain necessary supplies for faculty. This includes ordering, receiving, and inventorying supplies; operating the Xerox machine, ordering paper and Xerox supplies; order desk textbooks for the department in a timely manner, keep a current list of all books used in the department ; assist in the creation and distribution of departmental memos, letters and materials to faculty members and outside constituents; miscellaneous typing (e.g. memos, letters, lists, print requests, PV's, LPO's, RX's, etc.) for direct supervisor, faculty and staff within the department; maintain forms used by the department; collect and compile information as requested by the direct supervisor; assist in the distribution and collection of student evaluations; assist with bulk mailings; copying; and filing. Assist the department with preparing the schedule of course offerings each semester (including assisting with the inputting of the schedule into the online system). Preferred Qualification and please detail this information on your application: Experience working with a student information database system. This position may require traveling between campuses and working extended hours and weekends as needed. SPECIAL NOTE: Please be advised that this position is subject to the State mandated unpaid furlough provision effect from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
