The Position
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. Upon meeting the experience requirements the incumbent may be progressed to the Correctional Nurse II level and salary. The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is seeking Correctional Nurses for the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) a 60-bed staff secure facility for male youth age 12 to 18 located in Elko, NV. Elko is a growing, progressive small City with an exceptional quality of life. With some of the most majestic views in Nevada and an abundance of recreational activities, Elko is an outdoor paradise!
NYTC Nurses actively participate in a multidisciplinary team to provide nursing care to youth. Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying youth health care needs; making clinical observations and evaluations; prepare nursing care plans; administering medications as prescribed by a physician or designee; monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction; provide routine, basic, and minor emergency care including stabilization of emergencies while arranging for transport; ensure quality of care with established nursing standards and DCFS nursing policies. This is a full time position with a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. The State of Nevada and DCFS offer an excellent benefits package that includes health, dental and vision insurance, participation in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), accrual of 15 days of annual and 15 days of sick leave, 11 paid holidays and no city, county, state or social security tax! DCFS also encourages education by providing on-going trainings and paid release time for staff to obtain CEU's. Some positions may also be eligible for an additional 5% Shift Differential pay. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    License as a Registered Nurse and one year of professional nursing experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Special Requirements
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
