Heat Plant Specialists operate, adjust, monitor, maintain, clean and repair high and/or low pressure boilers and hot water heat generating equipment, auxiliary equipment such as fuel and combustion systems, compressors, pumps, steam lines, steam traps, heat exchangers, water lines, controls, gauges, and emergency power generators.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Heat Plant Specialists operate, adjust, monitor, maintain, clean and repair high and/or low pressure boilers and
hot water heat generating equipment, auxiliary equipment such as fuel and combustion systems, compressors,
pumps, steam lines, steam traps, heat exchangers, water lines, controls, gauges, and emergency power
generators.
Check system functions by monitoring and/or adjusting a computerized energy management system,
combustion and safety controls, and pressure and temperature gauges to ensure safe and efficient operation of
heat plant equipment; take water samples; analyze chemical properties of feed water; add chemicals and blow
down water level controls as needed to prevent deposit and sludge buildup.
Perform seasonal overhauls and inspection preparation of heat plant and heat distribution systems by
dismantling and cleaning boilers, repairing or replacing refractories, repacking valves, repairing pumps and
seals, and checking and calibrating controls according to agency policies and regulatory requirements.
Maintain records of system operating conditions, maintenance performed and equipment malfunctions in
accordance with agency policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
Respond to emergencies such as utility or system failures as required.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Completion of a recognized heat plant apprenticeship program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process. |
