The Position
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is seeking Correctional Nurses for the Caliente Youth Center (CYC) a 140-bed staff secure facility for male and female youth age 12 to 18. Caliente is home to some of the most beautiful country in Nevada! This includes the magnificent Rainbow Canyon and the oasis-like setting of Kershaw-Ryan State Park just 2 miles south of the city center. Within 50 miles of the town are four other state parks: Beaver Dam, Cathedral Gorge, Spring Valley, and Echo Canyon. Caliente is a short distance, approximately 2 hours north, from the bright lights of Las Vegas, NV.
CYC Nurses actively participate in a multidisciplinary team to provide nursing care to youth. Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying youth health care needs; making clinical observations and evaluations; prepare nursing care plans; administering medications as prescribed by a physician or designee; monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction; provide routine, basic, and minor emergency care including stabilization of emergencies while arranging for transport; ensure quality of care with established nursing standards and DCFS nursing policies. This is a full time position with a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. The State of Nevada and DCFS offer an excellent benefits package that includes health, dental and vision insurance, participation in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), accrual of 15 days of annual and 15 days of sick leave, 11 paid holidays and no city, county, state or social security tax! DCFS also encourages education by providing on-going trainings and paid release time for staff to obtain CEU's. Some positions may also be eligible for an additional 5% Shift Differential pay. DCFS together in partnership with families, communities and other governmental agencies provides support and services to assist Nevada's children and families in reaching their full human potential. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    License as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which was in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associates degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Special Requirements
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
