Dental Assistants assist dentists in the general or specialized treatment of patients in routine, emergency, and clinical research procedures in areas of diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontic, pedodontic, orthodontic, oral surgery, and prosthodontic dental care.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position supports the School of Dental Medicine by providing adminstrative needs in the Faculty Dental Practice. This person will be charged with making the day to day operations and patient flow successful. Ability to take instructions well and displays ability to learn. Greeting patients, proper phone etiquette, good communication skills with patients, staff, doctors and students. Able to be given instructions and see to completion without absolute supervision and able to recognize areas that need improvement. The front desk duties to be included are as follows: all scheduling, maintaining profitable schedules, answer incoming phonecalls, confirming appointments, verify Insurance breakdowns, financial arrangements, end of day balncing and reconciliation of patient payments. Must be able to judge availability of receiving patients who are determined to be late for scheduled appointment time. Patient communication skills and the ability to work with frequent interruptions and distractions, ability to organize and prioritize work throughout the normal business day is required. Demonstrated experience with Axium/Mipacs software is preferred. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, varied hours. Graduation from high school or equivalent education, successful completion of a recognized one-year dental assistant training program, and one year of experience working with the public collecting and recording information and/or explaining and clarifying basic information; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of clinical experience in a dental practice using four-handed techniques in a wide range of procedures, collecting and recording patient's medical information, exposing, processing, mounting and labeling radiographs, and applying dental sterile techniques and infectious control and exposure procedures; OR one year of experience as a Dental Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
