The Position
Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.
--The University of Nevada, Reno Cooperative Extension Southern Area is recruiting for a grant-funded part-time (19 hours/week) Program Officer 2 for Las Vegas. This position coordinates all of the operational and logistical needs of the UNCE Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy Grant program which will provide training and literacy coaching to targeted child care centers. The incumbent will supervise program staff and monitor staff teaching efforts; maintain the records of program participation and manage the program budget; develop new research based programming based on participant needs and presents literacy training and coaching to child care teachers and center directors. The incumbent will act as a program liaison between UNCE and the community and disseminates accurate, up-to-date information on early childhood literacy education.
--The typical work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. This is subject to change and may require to work a flexible time schedule including some evenings and weekends based on program needs. This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. Pursuant to Nevada Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of six days (part-time prorated) per fiscal year effective July 1, 2013. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from an accredited four year college or university in public administration or a related field and one year of previous experience in planning, coordinating or administering a program; OR one year experience as a Program Officer I in Nevada State service; OR graduation from high school or the equivalent and five years of previous experience in planning, coordinating or administering a program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

The Examination

PROGRAM OFFICER 2 (07.647) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Describe your experience, including number of years and where experience was gained, in educational experience in relevant fields and recent work experience in or with child care programs. Please provide detailed information aligning your early care and education knowledge and experience to the position requirements.
2) Describe your experience, including number of years and where experience was gained, in training and mentoring adult learners. Please provide additional information to ensure your experiences are fully articulated within adult education and training.
3) Describe your experience, including number of years and where experience was gained, in formal supervision of assigned staff (ex. head teacher or lead supervisor).
4) Describe your experience, including number of years and where experience was gained, in a) preparing reports regarding program status, and b) technical/creative writing such as lesson plans or curriculum development.
5) Describe your experience with the following Microsoft Office Software: a) Word, b) Excel, c) PowerPoint, and d) Publisher.
