JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Accountants are responsible for preparing financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the standards of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.
Accountants are responsible for preparing financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the standards of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and other regulatory requirements.
The candidate possesses a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The candidate develops financial reports for financial analysis; forecasting, trending, and results analysis which are used for developing, interpreting and implementing financial concepts for financial reporting and control. The candidate also serves as a resource to provide technical guidance to State agencies to ensure accurate and consistent recording of the State's accounts receivable records.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting; OR a bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or a related field which included 18 units in accounting, and one year of experience preparing GAAP-based financial statements; periodic State, federal or private grant fiscal reports and/or fiscal ad hoc reports used by internal and external entities; OR four years of experience in the accounting field, two years of which were at the Accountant Technician II level in Nevada State service performing the duties described above and 18 college credits in accounting.
Special Notes
The required 18 college credits in accounting must include 6 credits of beginning accounting, 6 credits of intermediate accounting, and 6 credits of upper-division accounting courses.
Certified Public Accountants are not required to take the written exam. If you are a CPA, you must attach a copy of your certification with your application at time of submittal.

Appointment to this class requires successful completion of a written examination.
