The Position
Family Services Supervisors plan, organize, and direct day-to-day activities of an assigned unit comprised of Family Services Specialists.
This position is located within the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services' Ely District Office. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. The State of Nevada offers a wide array of benefits to employees including paid holidays, annual and sick leave, health coverage, retirement, and many additional options. Benefits include medical, dental, life and, disability insurance program; eleven paid holidays a year; three weeks of annual leave; three weeks of sick leave; State retirement system (PERS); and a tax sheltered deferred compensation plan is available. State employees do not contribute to Social Security, but a Medicare deduction is required. Long-term employees enjoy additional benefits.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of journey level experience performing social services case processing duties which included application of rules and regulations, conducting personal interviews with applicants for the purpose of exchanging information, documenting facts pertinent to program requirements, and researching financial circumstances and determining eligibility; OR two years of experience as a Family Services Specialist III in Nevada State service in child support enforcement; OR one year of experience as a Family Services Specialist III in Nevada State service in eligibility or employment and training; OR two years of experience as a Family Service Specialist II in Nevada State service in eligibility or employment and training; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
The Examination
The exam will consist of both a written and training and experience exam(s). Applicants who pass the required written exam will then proceed to have the training and experience exam scored.
PROFESSIONAL EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.

FAMILY SERVICES SUPERVISOR I
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) A) Do you have experience as a Lead Worker for staff of Family Services Specialists? If so, please indicate at which job you gained this experience, timeframes, your responsibilities and authority, and titles of your subordinates. B) Do you have experience as a supervisor? If so, please indicate at which job you gained this experience, timeframes, your responsibilities and authority, and titles of subordinates.
2) Describe your experience interpreting and applying complex social services related rules and regulations. Please identify where you gained this experience including timeframes and identify the social services program being implemented.
3) Describe your experience working with clients/customers in a public assistance program. Please include where you gained this experience, time frames, job duties, and type of public assistance program.
4) Do you have experience developing statistical reports in a spreadsheet program? Describe the complexity of the reports you created and your proficiency level in the computer spreadsheet program (e.g. beginner, intermediate, advanced). You may be required to demonstrate this ability if selected for an interview.
5) List any college degrees you possess. In order to receive credit, you must attach transcripts to your application. They do not need to be official copies.
