The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is part of the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) - Rural Regional Center and can be located in Carson City, Fallon, Fernley, Gardnerville, or Winnemucca. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, and friendly co-workers, and is a great place to work. The mission of ADSD is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible. Applicants must have a working knowledge of theories and principles of counseling and psychotherapy; symptoms, characteristics and treatment of mental illness, intellectual disability and emotional/behavioral disorders, crisis intervention techniques, treatment team dynamics, psychometric testing procedures and testing instruments and ethical standards of care. They must have experience in administering, scoring and interpreting psychological tests and assessment instruments; and in writing comprehensive evaluations and reports. Primary duties of the position include but are not limited to: determination of Regional Center eligibility in adherence with federal and state guidelines; performing psychological evaluations and providing written reports of findings as required by Nevada Medicaid Waiver; providing psychological and behavioral consultations to families and professional caregivers; and providing individual. family and group treatment and psycho-educational programs to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities who have co-occurring emotional, behavioral or psychiatric problems. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
