Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is responsible for the direction, supervision, and administration of the Nevada Highway Patrol's Permit Section which administers the Uniform Hazardous Materials Transportation Carrier Registration and Permit Program, the Flashing Amber Light Permit Program, and the Authorized Emergency Light Permit Program.
This position is responsible for developing, evaluating and implementing methods for administering the permit programs. Responsibilities include collecting, auditing, and depositing fees into the appropriate accounts for the permit program. Conduct in-depth reviews on hazardous material and hazardous waste motor carrier applicants. Make recommendations for suspension, revocation, or denial of hazardous material and hazardous waste permits based on NRS, NAC and the Alliance Program Administrator's Manual.
This position supervises an Administrative Assistant I. As a supervisor, this position provides training, leadership, direction and guidance; prepares employee appraisal reports, and developmental plans; and develops and/or revises employee work performance standards.
Additionally, this position will provide fiscal support to the Grants & Projects Analyst II (GPAII) responsible for the division's MCSAP Grant. Duties may include applying Pend 4 approvals to vouchers, maintaining and reconciling declining balance spreadsheets, job number reconciliation, and working closely with the GPA II in order to develop an in-depth knowledge of the grant.

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: providing administrative/program support to professional staff and management; performing secretarial duties in support of a manager; coordinating communications between the manager, staff and program clientele; supervision of subordinate staff; researching information from internal and external sources; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
