Correctional Sergeants and Lieutenants have charge of an assigned watch or major area in a State correctional institution/facility and supervise subordinate officers to ensure the safe custody,discipline and welfare of inmates.
In terms of typical functionality, this IS NOT a "traditional", custody of inmates-focused Correctional Sergeant position. Incumbent will be responsible for the development, evaluation and delivery of training curriculum and programs. The position requires development, design and implementation of training schedules; development and implementation of an evaluation process for students, trainees, and instructors; development and implementation of training needs assessment tools and programs; development of a community network of instructors/trainers for adjunct classes/training assistance; review, evaluation, updating and personalizing of lesson plans; monitoring of instructor certification requirements.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

One year of work experience as a Senior Correctional Officer in Nevada State service; OR three years of experience as a journey level Correctional Officer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards Training (POST-Category 3) requirements including the physical agility testing as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code. |

Applicants must pass a strict annual physical examination in accordance with Nevada State Prisons Standards and to meet requirements of the provisions of the Heart/Lung Bills. |
|
Equivalency statement-1 year Correctional Officer, plus BA in Criminal Justice or related field OR 2 years Correctional Officer, plus AA degree in Criminal Justice or related field. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
|
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. |
|
This position requires previous experience in the adult training process, to include planning, programming, coordinating and conducting adult training within a correctional environment. |
