The Position
Information Technology (IT) Managers are responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the IT activities, in one or more IT specialization areas, of the State, a department, or a division.

The Technical Services Manager position manages and administrates technical support for DETR's information technology (IT) infrastructure. This includes supervising network and telecom architecture and protocols; ensuring desktop and thin client configuration standards and support; establishing and implementing cyber-security best practices; overseeing server configurations, standards, implementations and operations for both physical and virtual server environments; ensuring best practices for active directory and group policy usage; ensuring general IT infrastructure best practices and architectures and other technical duties as assigned. The manager is responsible for ensuring that day-to-day technical support activities are completed timely to keep DETR's mission critical servers and internal networks functioning properly. The manager ensures that end-user PCs, printers and other desktop devices and related supporting software are maintained at current software and hardware versions, and that end-user support requests are resolved timely. The position oversees DETR's telecommunication and internal phone operations as well as network access to multiple rural offices throughout Nevada. Other areas of significant managerial oversight include internal and external systems security, technical support and coordination of DETR's unemployment insurance call center, and DETR's technical liaison to software and hardware vendors for ongoing licensed products. The position plays a significant role providing input to, reviewing of, and approval for technical architecture project requirements, security designs, server design, and network impact. The position has four supervisory reports and oversees 14 other infrastructure support staff. Other managerial responsibilities include general project management, annual infrastructure budget preparation, tracking and reconciliation, IT asset and inventory reviews and surveys, and other managerial duties as assigned.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and seven years of progressively responsible professional IT experience which involved strategic planning, project management, quality assurance, and computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, or information security. Four years of this experience must have been in a supervisory or project manager capacity; OR one year of experience as an IT Manager II in Nevada State service; OR two years of experience as an IT Professional IV in Information Security in Nevada State service for Information Security positions; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
