The Position
Social Services Managers plan, organize, direct and manage the activities, staff and functions necessary to provide social services in an assigned region or district office and its satellites.
This position will be located in Carson City or Las Vegas depending on the candidate selected and the needs of the agency. The incumbent will report directly to the Chief of Employment and Support Services as the manager of the Energy Assistance Program. The incumbent will be responsible for organizing, directing, and supervising subordinate staff; statewide program planning ensuring compliance with applicable policies and regulations; implementing policies and procedures; developing and submitting program budget recommendations to Division Administration; monitoring and approving expenditures; analyzing options when changes are made to the federal regulations governing the program; and negotiating contracts with Energy Providers and Community Service Agencies. The incumbent will represent the program at professional in-state and out-of-state workshops, conferences, and seminars; may make presentations to public or agency groups including the Welfare Board, Manager Meetings, Public Hearings, and Advisory Committees; and will assist with the preparation of Federal reports by compiling measurement indicators for agency and legislative use and researching and comparing statistics from other states and the federal government to provide information to administrative and program staff.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, health or social science, public administration or related field and two years of professional experience in the field of social services involving collecting and documenting detailed information, making determinations regarding requests for services, interpreting and applying State and federal regulations, and writing case summaries and reports. In addition, one year of the above experience must have been at the supervisory level; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
SOCIAL SERVICES MANAGER 1 (12.357) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.
