Digital Telecommunications Specialist's perform specialized electronic technician work involving the specification, fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair and modification of both hardware and network software for telecommunications systems, Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs) in a geographical area or on a statewide basis for one or more State agencies.
--The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Digital Telecommunication Specialist 1 for the Information Technology department. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the fiber optic cable plant at the University of Nevada, Reno. This include fiber optic cable installation, fusion splicing, termination, testing, labeling and documentation. Fiber Optic design specifications will be determined in coordination with the manager of Network services. Fiber optic patch cables will be installed at equipment end points and cross-connect points to support circuits for data, voice, security and life-safety networks as requested. Existing fiber optic circuits will be tested and repaired when problems arise. All circuits' paths will be documented when installed and removed. Underground utility locate request will be reviewed daily and all fiber cables will be located and marked as required.
--The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. An Associate's degree in electronics technology or closely related field and two years of experience in data communications networks involving the fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair and modification of hardware and software; OR completion of trade school or military training to the certificate level in electronics technology which included theory of communications technology and two years of experience as described above; OR a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
