The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is located within the Environmental Services Division, Air Quality Section, Carson City. Incumbent provides operational support and guidance for the Air Quality Program on Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) projects. Responsibilities include interfacing with project teams and regulatory agencies; performing field surveys of project areas to determine suitable air quality monitoring sites; assembling project related information to be utilized as computer modeling inputs; performing air quality impact modeling of selected department projects; establishing agreements with consultants to provide air quality related services; monitoring and reviewing the work performed by consultants, and reviewing consultant billings to ensure validity and accuracy. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience conducting modeling and analyzing output.

The Examination
Application Evaluation Exam
The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
The following additional questions are part of this Recruitment
1) Describe your experience interpreting and applying federal air quality regulations/guidelines on transportation projects, and interaction with regulatory agencies (USEPA or State and local environmental agencies). Absence of this experience is not disqualifying.
2) Describe your experience: a) Using and interpreting MOVES, CAL3QHC, CAL3QHCR, MOBILE6.2, and AERMOD models and results for air quality studies, b) Reviewing modeling input and output, and technical reports for the models listed above for air quality studies on transportation projects, c) Composing correspondence and technical documents. Absence of this experience is not disqualifying.
3) Describe your experience with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) on transportation projects. Absence of this experience is not disqualifying.
