The Position
Compliance Investigators perform investigations regarding violations of federal and/or State laws or regulations pertaining to a specific State program or regulatory area such as public assistance, real estate, insurance, employment discrimination or sexual harassment. The investigative process is initiated following a formal complaint or suspected violation utilizing standard investigative techniques. Incumbents are not sworn peace officers, and enforcement actions are limited to the specific program or regulatory area and involve informal resolution and/or recommendations for administrative sanctions or penalties which are imposed by a higher authority.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Under general direction of Deputy Commissioner, acts as a first-line supervisor. Reviews complaints assigns cases to compliance investigators and handles own assigned cases. Monitors files and give direction to investigative staff regarding procedures and appropriate course of action. Provides in office training sessions for investigators covering relevant regulatory and industry issues. Investigates, resolves and reports back to complainant on case files handled. Prepares statistical data on complaints for Deputy Commissioner as required. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, police science, psychology, social work, business administration or other discipline related to the assignment and two years of investigative experience as an investigator in a specified program area where standard investigative techniques were utilized to make program compliance determinations and prepare detailed reports for the purpose of justifying administrative sanctions, penalties or criminal prosecution. Work experience may be obtained in a law enforcement, investigative, regulatory or comparable setting; OR graduation from high school or equivalent (GED) education and four years of investigative experience as outlined above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR two years of experience as a Compliance Investigator II in State service.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience managing insurance investigations, insurance claims or application of insurance policy provisions, insurance statutes or regulations as they apply to consumers, insurance companies, or regulators; or equivalent investigation management experience in a related field.
The Examination

The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately.
