JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is part of the Laboratory Certification team and is responsible for conducting inspections of environmental and mining laboratories that perform analytical tests for the Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Nevada Mining Laboratory Certification Program. The incumbent will process laboratory certification applications, identify deficiencies in laboratory quality assurance practices and ensure laboratory compliance with approved test methods. The Laboratory Certification Officer will provide onsite technical assistance to laboratory personnel and recommend approval/disapproval of laboratory corrective action plans and eligibility for certification. This position requires moderate travel (up to 25% of the time) in and out of state, the ability to pass EPA Laboratory Certification Officer training courses in chemistry and microbiology, and the ability to read and interpret Federal and State statutes.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research, planning, and technical support; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
