The Position
Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.
Position will work with the Game Management Division to coordinate with Game Division and field staff (seasonal technicians, a graduate student, and volunteers) to effectively and efficiently conduct both field and data management work for the following projects: mountain goat and bighorn sheep disease transmission research, mule deer migration and survival monitoring, and other projects as agreed upon by the Game Division staff. This position will ensure that field staff has adequate direction and guidance, resources, and that critical communication between all stakeholders is maintained to meet the objectives of the projects. This position will occasionally accompany field staff to evaluate and ensure tasks are completed correctly and efficiently and to adapt guidance and field processes as unforeseen challenges arise. In addition to coordinating field staff, this position will document and maintain records of field observations, collect and properly transfer biological samples from sick or dead animals, monitor satellite collar data transmissions, oversee aerial telemetry follow-up, collect dropped big game collars, and convert and transform previously collected Game Division survey, hunt, disease, and GPS animal location data into the proper electronic form. This position is 75% full-time equivalent time, working up to 1,566 hours in a 12-month period.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and one year of professional wildlife management experience such as conducting research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects; OR one year of experience as a Biologist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations.
    Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
    Specialized experience may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment.
Special Requirements
    Statewide travel and outdoor work is required.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    GIS (Geographical Information System) experience with mapping, monitoring, and analyzing datasets.
    Experience with GPS.
    Experience working with Mountain Goat and Bighorn sheep to include disease transmission research, migration and survival or other related duties.
