JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Seasonal, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Agricultural Inspectors perform sampling and inspection of agricultural products at shipping point inspection facilities, and participate in pest control and noxious weed eradication; check and grade condition of fruits and vegetables, and assist plant pathologists and entomologists in the preparation of samples for analysis.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This is a seasonal position located at the Department of Agriculture, Division of Plant Industry, Entomology Section, and will be responsible for performing field inspections and surveys for entomology under the supervision of the Agricultural Inspector IV. The position will be located and based in Sparks, NV. The incumbent will be required to travel to agricultural production and rangeland areas, across the state of Nevada. Main duties include placing and collecting traps, preparing and labeling specimens, and collection and recording of data electronically using handheld computers and phones. The incumbent may be assigned to assist in other related Plant Industry disease and field surveys as required. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience in agricultural sciences or related sciences performing agriculture duties; OR one year of experience as an Agricultural Inspector I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination or education and experience.
Special Requirements
50 % Travel requirement.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
This position requires a willingness to work a 4 ten-hour shifts schedule.
