The Position
Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to: A) Plan projects in accordance with code requirements; research and purchase appropriate tools and materials; select, work with, and assist outside contractors; review blueprints and specifications. B) Work as lead person and perform skilled electrical work such as: calculate load requirements; install wiring, fixtures, and equipment in accordance with code requirements; install switches, relays, circuit breakers and circuit breaker panels; troubleshoot, repair, and replace electric motors, generators and equipment. Also perform routine maintenance; test, repair and replace automatic transfer switches and emergency power systems; replace light bulbs, light ballasts and lighting fixtures; install and run temporary power systems, trace out and identify power issues. C) Perform skilled and semi-skilled work on a variety of mechanical equipment such as replacing air handler components and air filters, grease fittings, repair hydronic pumps, replace drive belts, and perform routine maintenance and test of electrical generators and fire pump engines. D) Perform skilled plumbing work to maintain, repair or modify piping systems; measure and cut various types of pipe; assemble pipe fittings and join pipes by threading or soldering; clear blockages in drain pipes and repair three-phase electric well pumps and controls. E) May perform semi-skilled carpentry, painting and grounds maintenance work occasionally; F) Establish, assign, evaluate and revise work schedules, duties and priorities in the absence of Facilities Supervisor 2. This position will work Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Per the Nevada State Legislature, classified employees are subject to six (6) mandatory unpaid furlough days through 6/30/15.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades and one year of journey level experience which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR one year of journey level experience as a Maintenance Repair Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Skills Required
    Preference will be given to applicants with experience in electrical systems, automatic transfer switches and emergency power systems.
    A valid Nevada class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
    Incumbent must obtain Asbestos Abatement Worker Certification within the first year of employment and Asbestos Abatement Supervisor Certification within second year of hire date, must maintain license as condition of continued employment, and perform asbestos related work as needed.
    Incumbent must obtain a Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements within one year of hire date and it must be maintained throughout employment.
