The Position
Community Based Instructors conduct a variety of outreach educational programs to individuals and/or groups of people in a variety of community settings, which may include schools, civic and senior centers, camps and other meeting facilities.
-- The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Lyon County is recruiting for a full-time Community Based Instructor 3 in YERINGTON, Nevada. Under supervision of the Extension Educator the incumbent will coordinate the Lyon County 4-H program. Duties include coordinating leadership, citizenship, public speaking, animal science, expressive arts, shooting sports, 4-H Camp, hands-on science, health and nutrition, youth-adult partnerships and other educational programs, events and contests. The incumbent will coordinate the work of volunteers to conduct these activities. Additionally, this position will be responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising adult and youth volunteers; implementing education programs to include teaching in non-formal settings using a variety of delivery methods; collecting data and documenting and maintaining records; participating in overall program review; participating in professional development activities; acting as a liaison with agencies, schools, libraries and community centers; ordering/purchasing supplies for classes; and developing and maintaining a budget for each class, including determining where supplies can be most economically purchased. The incumbent will write press releases and promote the 4-H program using a variety of media outlets.
-- Position is currently full-time, but may fluctuate to part-time depending on funding. Work hours are based on 40 hours per week with a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. Pursuant to Nevada Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of six days (part-time prorated) per fiscal year effective July 1, 2013. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of relevant work experience in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, community development, health and nutrition, human and family development, and natural resources in urban and rural areas; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

    This position requires relevant work/volunteer experience teaching or instructing adults and youth in a learning environment.
