The Position
Motive Power & Equipment inspections focus on the roadworthiness of locomotives and freight and passenger railcars. Inspection personnel conduct surveillance and inspection activities throughout the state, and sometimes work in pairs or teams to conduct focused inspections. The inspection personnel also work and communicate closely with their federal counterparts and adjacent state inspectors to monitor railroad activities and operations. Inspection personnel are expected to determine compliance with applicable state regulations concurrently with enforcement of federal regulations.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience in the construction or maintenance of railroad rolling equipment; OR valid certification by the Federal Railroad Administration in Motive Power and Equipment.
Special Notes
    Incumbents must obtain and maintain Federal Railroad Administration certification as a Motive Power and Equipment Inspector within one year of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    Some positions require a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this class have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
