The Position
Health Program Specialists plan, develop, implement and evaluate health services and activities; develop goals, objectives, program requirements and procedures; provide technical information regarding specialized health related conditions; and participate and provide support to various committees, advisory boards and other work groups.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This is a Health Program Specialist 2 position (Wellness and Health Promotion Manager) within the Chronic Disease Prevention & Health Promotion (CDPHP) Section in the Bureau of Child, Family, and Community Wellness, Division of Public and Behavioral Health located in Carson City, Nevada. The overall purpose of the position is to manage and direct the Community Health Worker, Diabetes Prevention and Control, and Stroke and Heart programs. Functions include: grant management, report design and development, evaluation of program activities, community collaborations, and fiscal oversight. The incumbent will be responsible for the design and implementation of the following activities: 1. Engage community stakeholders to design and implement a statewide workplans that embody care coordination, preventive screenings, and health promotion. 2. Monitor the burden of chronic diseases in the state and create relevant policy briefs, white papers, and power point presentation. 3. Establishing information sharing between the clinical sector, nonprofits, and CDPHP for the purposes of identifying and implement quality improvement initiatives. 4. Identifying and implementing chronic disease education and promotion interventions among high risk populations.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a health science, behavioral science or closely related field applicable to the program area and three years of health-related experience which included researching, collecting, and analyzing data and statistics, developing objectives, protocols, and procedures, providing health education services to target groups or the general public, and/or investigation and prevention of communicable or chronic diseases; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
