The Position
Incumbents acquire the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities and gain experience in a specialized information technology area such as systems administration, network administration, database administration, or applications analysis and development.
Under close supervision of a higher-level IT professional, incumbents acquire the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities and gain experience in a specialized information technology area such as systems administration, network administration, database administration, or applications analysis and development. Incumbents perform a variety of IT-related dutes as trainees.
Enterprise Information Technology Services Application Support Unit is looking for a trainee Applications Developer to be part of our technology family. The Application Support Unit supports law enforcement statewide by writing and maintaining applications involving areas such as sex offenders, wanted persons, parole violations, protection orders and many others. Our team helps protect the public from harm by providing critical information to all manner of law enforcement agencies across the state and across the country. You will need to possess the ability, under supervision, to identify user requirements, develop, implement, maintain and modify programming code. You will be actively involved in application analysis and design, while coding software applications based on that design. In addition, you will be required to test each application to ensure proper function and performance. Also, you will be responsible for documenting your applications in accordance with defined standards. It may be necessary to learn older programming languages to maintain existing legacy applications. Up to 25% travel is required to attend statewide user application requirements and design meetings for new criminal justice applications that will be written and supported by this position. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field; OR two years of relevant technical experience equivalent to an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Statewide travel is required.
