Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This position is located within the General Services Division, Carson City for the Nevada Point-of-Sale Firearms Unit. THE WORK SCHEDULE IS TUESDAY-SATURDAY, 9:00 AM TO 6:00 PM. IT REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO WORK ALL STATE HOLIDAYS EXCLUDING NEW YEAR'S DAY, THE 4TH OF JULY, THANKSGIVING DAY AND CHRISTMAS DAY. The incumbent is responsible for interpreting Federal and State laws to determine eligibility to possess a firearm according to Federal guidelines; correspond with multiple levels of criminal justice agencies to request arrest reports and disposition information and interact with Nevada Federal Firearms Licensed dealers to conduct background investigations on potential firearms transferees. The position requires certification in NCJIS/NCIC within six months of employment and recertification every two years for continued employment. The NCJIS/NCIC certification will be conducted by the Division. THIS DIVISION DOES NOT CONDUCT PHONE INTERVIEWS.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
The work schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday.
The work schedule for this position is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This position requires the ability to work all state holidays excluding New Year's Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
The Examination
CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
