Development Technicians fabricate, maintain, calibrate, repair and modify a variety of electrical, mechanical and computerized equipment and computer systems used in support of academic research, data gathering, analysis and teaching; and specialize in two or more technical areas such as electronics, mechanical devices or computer systems.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position maintains the State of Nevada microwave communications site infrastructure in Northwestern and Central Nevada. The position will require up to 50 percent travel and will cover Carson, Washoe, Pershing, Humboldt, Lander and Mineral Counties. This position also provides primary support for Elko and is a secondary backup to the Development Techs in Las Vegas. This position consists of performing a variety of tasks associated with the maintenance and service of the existing buildings throughout Northwestern Nevada and State Microwave facilities. It requires working knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades. The incumbent must possess a working knowledge of State Policies and Procedures pertaining to facility operations, personnel, and purchasing. Must also be familiar with National, State, and local building, fire, and electrical codes. Knowledge and experience with industrial controls is also required for this position. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.
Position requires climbing of communication towers to 110 '. Requires statewide travel to remote locations and working at high elevations in extreme weather conditions. Requires knowledge of propane fueled generators and delivery of propane to remote locations. It also requires knowledge to vehicle maintenance and metal fabrication.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field and one year of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in electronics or related field and two years of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
