Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

This position reports to the Management Analyst 3 in the Director's Office fiscal section. This position is one of three positions that shares in the accounts payable, purchasing, grant tracking, receivables and declining balance sheets. These functions are specifically performed for seven different budget accounts and in addition many transactions involving all the operating budgets for DPS. This position requires significant organization skills, accuracy and attention to detail (Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.).
Per Nevada State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are required to take 48 hours of unpaid furlough time per fiscal year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience which included duties such as responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and/or other accounting data; setting up computer spreadsheets to record, track, manipulate and report data; researching and interpreting financial data to prepare reports and respond to budget and accounts related inquiries; and reconciling accounts; OR one year as an Accounting Assistant II in Nevada State service which included clerical accounting duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
Experience paying bills with different funding sources such as highway funds, grants or general funds.
Microsoft Word-Advanced Level.
Microsoft Excel-Advanced level.
Microsoft Outlook-Advanced Level.
The Examination

CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
