The Position
Community Based Instructors conduct a variety of outreach educational programs to individuals and/or groups of people in a variety of community settings, which may include schools, civic and senior centers, camps and other meeting facilities.
-- The University of Nevada Reno's Cooperative Extension is recruiting for a part-time Community Based Instructor 3 for its Partners in Parenting program located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The incumbent will be responsible for teaching the Family Storyteller and Little Books & Little Cooks curriculum lessons for parents of young children at various community centers; program recruitment and promotion; assisting with evaluation methods and data entry; recruiting and overseeing in-class parent volunteers, participating in community family events, and other duties as assigned.
-- This is a benefited, part-time position. The position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. The typical work schedule is variable weekdays with occasional nights and weekends; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. Pursuant to Nevada Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of six days (part-time prorated) per fiscal year effective July 1, 2013. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of relevant work experience in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, community development, health and nutrition, human and family development, and natural resources in urban and rural areas; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.
    This position requires professional experience teaching adult and child learners, and working with parents and young children, some of which must be with pre-school aged children (3-5 years old).
    This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
    This position requires having a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Candidates must be able to provide own reliable transportation to various locations, to include hauling supplies and materials and traveling in all weather conditions.
    This position requires working a variable work schedule, which may include evenings and weekends.
