The Position
Mid-Level Medical Practitioners may be either Advanced Practitioners of Nursing or Physician Assistants who provide medical care in psychiatric or correctional settings.
Mid-Level Medical Practitioners may be either Advanced Practitioners of Nursing or Physician Assistants who provide medical care in psychiatric or correctional settings. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is located with Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services in Sparks, Nevada. An Advance Practice Registered Nurse provides assessment and treatment in a psychiatric setting. Mid-Level Practitioners assess mental health status and manage the mental health care of consumers in an outpatient setting; complete psychiatric assessments; perform examinations and develop diagnoses to initiate a program of treatment. Incumbents will prescribe psychiatric medications; monitor patients for medication side effects and adjust the medication regime as needed. Incumbents will also maintain accurate records documenting all findings, diagnoses, and treatments, including medications and changes in status in the electronic medical record. In this role, incumbents provide education and counseling to patients and their families to promote positive mental health habits. The successful candidate will work in a fast pace environment collaboratively with other mental health professionals. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Licensure by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners or certification by the Nevada State Board of Osteopathic Medicine as a Physician Assistant; OR certification of recognition as an Advanced Practitioner of Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
Special Requirements
    Current certification of registration or license to prescribe from the Nevada Board of Pharmacy is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Licensure to prescribe controlled substances from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Certification or licensure to dispense controlled substances, poisons, dangerous drugs and devices from the Nevada State Board of Nursing and Nevada Board of Pharmacy is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this series must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Current licensure by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners; certification by the Nevada State Practitioner of Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
