Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform journey level duties and may serve as a lead worker to lower level IT staff as assigned.
This position serves as field engineering support for digital microwave systems, metro Ethernet radio systems, fiber optic and copper multiplexers, Digital Access Cross Connect Systems (DACCS), Channel banks, telecommunications switches, broad band wireless and all associated network transport infrastructure in support of statewide voice, video, radio and data communications for public safety and Silvernet. The position provides 24/7/365 maintenance of a statewide critical public safety communications system and infrastructure. The position assists with the planning and development of communication networks, and suggest alternative communication techniques, evaluates trends and technologies. The incumbent monitors, manages and maintains enterprise communications pathways. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and two years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, and/or applications analysis and development; OR two years of experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service; OR four years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Applicants must be willing to work standby and carry the standby cellular phone for evening and weekend system troubleshooting.

Experience with digital microwave systems, fiber optics, multiplexers, routers, digital access cross connect systems (DACCS), WAN's and LAN's.

Experience in transport methodologies from 56 K to OC3. |
