The Position
Welders plan and lay out projects and join metal components together using gas welding, arc welding, soldering and brazing processes to fabricate, strengthen and/or repair components, equipment and fixtures.
This position is located in District III, Ely. Ely is a small mining community in the county seat of White Pine County. With its' population of between 4,000-6,000 it boasts being once on the Old Pony Express Stagecoach route. Ely sits at 6,437 feet in elevation and is surrounded by mountains ranging between 9,500 - 10,500 feet. Elk, deer, antelope, and chukar can be found in Ely and hunting and fishing are popular pastimes to be enjoyed. Being only just 60 miles from Great Basin National Park Ely is scenic and picturesque place for any true nature-lover. Incumbent will make equipment repairs, modifications and adaptations using a variety of welding equipment and techniques as well as original problem solving skills in performing complex layout and fabrication of welded equipment components. Incumbent will also be responsible for keeping the Sub District's equipment fleet in good repair for routine maintenance and emergency response. NOTE: THE ELIGIBLE LIST ESTABLISHED FROM THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO UNDERFILL A WELDER II POSITION. THE INCUMBENT WILL PROGRESS TO THE WELDER II LEVEL UPON MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THAT CLASS, MEETING SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE AND WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Completion of an approved welding apprenticeship training program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    Incumbent is required to furnish their own tools.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Welding certification issued by the American Welding Society (AWS) is required in overhead, vertical, and horizontal welding within one year of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
