The Position
Library Technicians/Assistants perform duties in support of the operation of libraries that house and provide access to a variety of materials in a variety of formats. Incumbents perform and/or supervise technical, paraprofessional and administrative duties within one or more functional areas of the library including acquisitions; cataloging; circulation; collection maintenance; document delivery/interlibrary loan; government documents; reference, serials and/or metadata, electronic resources, and digital services.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors with operational responsibility for a specialized unit or principal function in a large library,
This position reports to the Serials Catalog Librarian in the Discovery Services Department. The incumbent checks in serials, standing orders, and government publications and performs high quality copy cataloging for these receipts as necessary. This position performs a number of database maintenance activities within the Libraries' integrated library system including reviewing system-generated reports and updating bibliographic and authority records as necessary, checking vendor-supplied serial records and marking duplicates for deletion, and updating holding statements as needed to reflect what the library actually owns. This position oversees the processing of physical items withdrawn or relocated within the library. The incumbent oversees the processing of items being sent to the commercial bindery. This position generates annual lists of statistics for items added and withdrawn from the collection. The incumbent will supervise 2-3 student assistants. The regular schedule for this position is Monday-Friday from 9am-6pm. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of increasingly responsible experience working in a library, one year of which included technical work assignments such as difficult copy cataloging; developing and maintaining a variety of Web pages; creating and maintaining complex database applications; and/or managing government publications; OR one year of experience as a Library Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    List any experience cataloging with bibliographic utilities (OCLC, etc.) or commercial vendors (Follett, etc.). Describe your experience in detail.
    List any experience with cataloging tools (RDA Toolkit, Cataloger's Desktop, Classification Web, MarcEdit, etc.). Describe your experience in detail.
    List any experience you have with cataloging standards (MARC, RDA, AACR2, etc.). Describe your experience in detail.
