The Position
Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform advanced journey level duties and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned. Incumbents may function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups.
This is a Senior Software Developer position located in Carson City within the Division of Water Resources. The incumbent must have a high level of knowledge and experience in the following areas: ASP.Net web application development, SQL Server or another relational database development, SQL, T-SQL or similar database programming language, and writing and consuming Restful Web Services. Experience and knowledge of additional programming languages and database systems will be a plus. The incumbent must also be conversant with all phases of software development lifecycle including requirements collection by conducting interviews, examining existing data systems, or similar research methods, developing prototypes, implementation of software modules, regular reviews with the user group, writing design documents and user manuals, deployment and testing of software systems. As part of the job, incumbent will maintain and upgrade legacy applications written in older technologies. Incumbent will be involved in new projects individually or in a team environment. The projects will range from small to large and complex. Incumbents may perform other duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending upon the needs of the agency. A bachelor's degree in computer science or similar field is highly desirable. This position has statewide travel requirement of 25%.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analyst and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Statewide travel is required.
    Working weekends and/or holidays is required.
    A valid State of Nevada Driver's License is required at the time of appointment and for continued employment.

Additional Position Criteria
    Experience with traditional software development lifecycle process and/or Agile development.
    Experience in ASP.NET web application development.
    Experience in writing SQL queries, functions, triggers, and stored procedures in T-SQL, PL/SQL or another database programming language.
