The Position
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff, or they coordinate and provide statewide health-related training programs.
Under direction, in addition to performance of all or part of the duties described in the series concept, positions allocated to this class: 1) Serve as a first-line supervisor including providing work direction, and resolving patient care and staffing issues; assign and review work, establish work performance standards, evaluate performance, and provide counseling and discipline to subordinate staff in an assigned work area on a shift. 2) Coordinate and provide health related training for medical, custody and other staff on a statewide basis; assess training needs; plan, develop, implement and evaluate health related training programs; track attendance and maintain documentation for credentialing and other mandatory certification; develop budget and statistical reports as required.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    License as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Probationary employees must successfully complete "pre-service" training (PST) provided by the department.
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Special Requirements
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Licensure as a Registered Nurse in State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
