The Position
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Safety Specialist for Mine Safety and Health conduct safety and health inspections at mines, both above ground and underground, mills, quarries, and related facilities; investigate mine accidents; conduct/provide training to mine employees, and provide technical assistance and consultation to mine operators. Incumbents may be required to use personal vehicle to conduct State business. Working shifts other than 8:00am to 5:00pm may be required, to include weekends. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Five years of technical, operational, or management experience in mines, mills, beneficiation plants, or smelters, one year of which must have been spent working underground.
Special Notes
    The ability to travel at least 50% of the time is required.
    This position may be required to work shifts other than 8:00am to 5:00pm, to include weekends.
    This position may be required to be on Standby/Call back.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
