JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Foresters perform professional duties in forestry, natural resource management and conservation, fire prevention and suppression, and related areas.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is responsible for managing the natural resource program in Washoe, Storey, Pershing, Humboldt, Lyon, Churchill, Mineral, Douglas and Carson counties. The natural resource program includes: rural forestry assistance, forest health, endangered plant protection, forest practice regulations and wildland fire rehabilitation. In addition to the program areas listed above, the incumbent for this position will be expected to pursue prescribed fire qualifications and participate in the agency's prescribed fire program.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in forestry or closely related natural resources field and two years of journey level professional natural resource experience in areas such as forest health, forest insect and disease identification and treatment, and vegetation management at a level comparable to Forester II or Nursery Specialist II; OR two years of experience as a Forester II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A thorough medical examination and physical agility test is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Additional Position Criteria
Experience applying for federal grants.
Experience with Sierra Nevada forest cover types and related silvicultural practices.
