Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Applicants must have a working knowledge of theories and principles of counseling and psychotherapy; symptoms, characteristics and treatment of mental illness, intellectual disability, and emotional/behavioral disorders; crisis intervention techniques; treatment team dynamics; psychometric testing procedures and testing instruments; and ethical standards of care. Under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, the Mental Health Counselor 2 must be able to administer, score and interpret psychological tests and assessment instruments; and write comprehensive evaluations and reports.
Primary duties of the position include but are not limited to: determination of Regional Center eligibility in adherence with federal and state guidelines; performing psychological evaluations and providing written reports of findings as required by Nevada Medicaid Waiver; providing psychological and behavioral consultations to families and professional caregivers; and providing individual, family and group treatment or psycho-educational programs to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities who have co-occurring emotional, behavioral, or psychiatric problems.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience.
