The Position
Chief Insurance Examiners plan, organize, direct and review new insurance products and programs to ensure that policies, rules, forms, business practices and operations comply with State laws and regulations, agency policies and procedures, and accepted industry standards.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is located in Carson City, NV and is responsible for leading the Property and Casualty section for the Nevada Division of Insurance. The incumbent oversees a staff of seven employees. The Property and Casualty Section is responsible for the regulation of the property and casualty portion of the insurance industry in Nevada, including: automobile insurance, homeowners insurance, workers' compensation insurance, title insurance, and the regulation of premium finance companies, motor clubs, service contracts, and the workers' compensation portion of the Consolidated Insurance Programs. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year through June 30, 2015.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, finance or related field, and four years of supervisory and/or management level experience which involved 1) the audit or examination of insurance companies and their operations; 2) the examination and/or analysis of insurance companies' products and programs that required the application of statutes, regulations and rules to determine the solvency and tax structure of insurance companies; or 3) determination of the appropriateness and soundness of insurance companies' products and programs; OR two years of experience as an Insurance Examiner II or Actuary I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
