The Position
Social Services Managers plan, organize, direct and manage the activities, staff and functions necessary to provide social services in an assigned region or district office and its satellites.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; work collaboratively to develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. This position manages the child welfare activities and operations in Rural Region District 2, the Carson City District Office. Incumbent supervises and evaluates performance of 5 subordinate supervisors, 23 social workers, and 4 professional support staff. Incumbent implements child welfare programs and ensures quality services to abused and neglected children are delivered in these communities, including Child Protective Services, Substitute Care Services, Adoption Services, and Foster Care Licensing and are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS), together in partnership with families, communities and other governmental agencies, provides support and services to assist Nevada's children and families in reaching their full human potential. DCFS programs include child protective and welfare service delivery in rural Nevada and oversight of urban county-operated child protective and welfare services, children's mental/behavioral health treatment and residential services (outpatient and inpatient acute) in urban Nevada, and statewide juvenile justice services including state-operated youth training centers and youth parole. DCFS is an extremely complex organization with incredibly dedicated and professional staff that are committed to building strong communities through strengthening families. This is a full time position with an anticipated work schedule of 8 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday and includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. DCFS also encourages education by providing on-going trainings and paid release time for staff to obtain Continuing Education Units.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, health or social science, public administration or related field and three years of supervisory experience in the implementation of social services programs; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex federal regulations; and writing program policies, procedures, or reports; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Some positions require professional licensure or certification in a social or medical specialty issued by the appropriate licensing board in the State of Nevada, which will be identified at the time of recruitment. Incumbents must maintain professional licensure or certification in their specialty for continuing employment.

    This position requires as current Social Worker License in the State of Nevada.
