In either a consultation or an enforcement mode, Industrial Hygienists identify, evaluate, and recommend controls for health hazards in the workplace through conducting inspections, investigations, surveys, research and analysis involving scientific disciplines such as chemistry, physics, engineering, epidemiology, toxicology, physiology, infection control, biomechanical and human factors engineering, and occupational health.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Incumbent works in the Division of Industrial Relations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration in the Enforcement Section in Reno as a Supervisor for the Industrial Hygienists. Supervisor coordinates the IH's daily activities and reviews reports to make sure they are accurate and the correct standards are cited. Supervisor performs on the job training of the IH's and assists them on inspections to make sure they have the understanding and knowledge of current field inspection procedures. Coordinates and monitors the Asbestos Program and randomly schedules inspections to assure compliance with NRS618.830. Conducts speaking engagements, serves as Acting District Manager in his absence, and assists Legal Department with cases. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in industrial
hygiene, occupational safety and health, chemistry, physics, biology, toxicology, environmental engineering, or closely related field and three years of professional experience with the principal duty of safety officer in
an industrial or construction setting which included conducting inspections or investigations for the purpose of evaluating workplace health and safety; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and five
years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of experience and education; OR one year of experience in Nevada State service as an Industrial Hygienist III; Safety Supervisor, Consultation; or
Safety Supervisor, Enforcement. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

This position requires experience as an Industrial Hygienist at a senior level in the Enforcement Section of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. |

This position is required to work a flexible/rotating shift. |
|
This position must be available for Standby/Call Back. |
|
Incumbent must be able to perform Process Safety Management inspections/investigations. |
