Wildlife Area Supervisors manage one or more Wildlife Management Areas by planning, budgeting, supervising, and performing maintenance and development activities to provide for an efficient operation and preserve wildlife resources and associated habitat.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position oversees 4 staff members involved in management activities on 5 wildlife management areas and one other large wetland complex. Position develops and submits various Federal Aid reports as well as written and verbal communications with numerous entities inside and outside the Department. Prepares work programs and long range management plans for the western Wildlife Management Area Complex. Prepares and administers annual and biennial budgets; develops contract for services and products, coordinates and tracks housing costs. Maintains all property, equipment, structures and other associated appurtenants of the WMA. Conducts, records and analyzes results of various types of fish, wildlife and associated habitat surveys and inventories. Supervises lower level Wildlife Area Technicians and an Equipment Mechanic. Successful candidate will be required to reside in housing at the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area provided by the Department of Wildlife. A deduction for the current rent amount of $50 is taken from the employee's paycheck every two weeks. A refundable $500 cleaning/damage deposit will be required within 30 days after date of hire.

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and three years of experience in wildlife management such as establishing and maintaining quality wildlife habitat to meet the needs of a variety of wildlife species; operating equipment to maintain suitable habitats for wildlife, surveying and inventory of wildlife and associated habitat; netting, trapping and banding of wildlife; and providing for security of wildlife management areas. One year of the above experience must have been in a leadworker capacity; OR
graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of experience in wildlife management such as installing and maintaining structures, operating equipment to maintain suitable habitats for wildlife,
surveying and inventory of wildlife and associated habitat; netting, trapping and banding of wildlife; and providing for security of wildlife management areas. One year of the above experience must have been in a
leadworker capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Wildlife Area Supervisor I in Nevada State service; OR two years of experience as a Wildlife Technician III in Nevada State service.
Special Notes
Positions in this series are required to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement and air brake certification within six months of appointment.
Restricted use Pesticide Applicator's Certificate is required within one year of appointment and as an ongoing condition of employment.

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
