APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY -  $38,523.60 to  $56,626.56  PAY GRADE: 31
The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Correctional Officers maintain and supervise inmates in State correctional facilities in a controlled humane environment.
Applicants must be a United States citizen and must be 21 years of age. You WILL NOT be eligible for employment with the Nevada Department of Corrections if the NCIC background check shows: * You have been convicted of a felony crime, or of any offense which would be a felony if committed in this state. * You have been convicted of DUI within seven (7) years of your written application; or convicted of two (2) DUI's, regardless of time limit. * You have been convicted of Domestic Violence or Domestic Assault. * You have been convicted of an offense involving moral turpitude. * You have been convicted of an offense involving the unlawful use, sale or possession of a controlled substance.
This is a maximum security correctional facility. Eligible applicants for this classification must: *Pass the P.O.S.T. physical fitness test. This includes, at a minimum, a vertical jump of 14 inches, 15 sit-ups in 1 minute, a 300-meter run in 77 seconds, 18 push-ups (not timed), and a 1.5-mile run/walk in 17 minutes and 17 seconds. *Pass psychological test prior to appointment. *Be willing to work overtime on short notice, as well as weekends and holidays. *Be willing to be recalled to work in cases of emergency or staff shortages on regular days off or other times. *Be willing to be placed on stand-by status if necessary. *Be available to work any post/shift assignment. *Be willing to work 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts. *Pass all phases of orientation training (rejection during probation for failure).

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    High school graduation or equivalent education and two years of work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Pass strict annual physical examination in accordance with the provisions of the Heart/Lung Bills.
    An Associate's Degree in corrections, criminal justice, or a closely related field may be substituted for six months of the required journey level experience.
    Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
Special Requirements
    As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, must be available to work any post/shift assignment.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NAC 289.110 all applicants must be a citizen of the United States.
    Pursuant to NAC 289.110 all applicants must be at least 21 years old.
    Pursuant to NAC 289.110 a person may not be appointed to perform the duties of a peace officer if he has been convicted of a felony in this State or of any offense, which would be a felony if committed in this state

    Pursuant to NAC 289.110 a person may not be appointed to perform the duties of a peace officer been convicted of an offense involving the unlawful use, sale or possession of a controlled substance.
    Pursuant to NAC 289.110 a person may not be appointed to perform the duties of a peace officer if there is a documented history of physical violence.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    The Nevada Department of Corrections will not appoint an applicant for employment if they have been convicted of a DUI/DWI within seven years of their written application; or convicted of 2 or more DUI/DWI within their lifetime.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    The Nevada Department of Corrections may not consider an applicant for employment if they have been convicted of one (1) gross misdemeanors and/or two (2) misdemeanors (other than traffic violations) during their lifetime.
    The Nevada Department of Corrections will not appoint an applicant for employment if they have been terminated for cause (due to a conduct-related situation) from a department of local, state, or federal government.
    The Nevada Department of Corrections will not appoint an applicant for employment if they have been discharged from military service other than honorably.
