The Position
Mid-Level Medical Practitioners may be either Advanced Practitioners of Nursing or Physician Assistants who provide medical care in psychiatric or correctional settings.
Mid-Level Medical Practitioners may be either Advanced Practitioners of Nursing or Physician Assistants who provide medical care in psychiatric or correctional settings. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position supports SOUTHERN NEVADA ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (SNAMHS) Rawson Neal Hospital, located at 1650 Community College Drive in Las Vegas. Our Agency's mission is to help adults with mental illness improve their quality of life. At SNAMHS, we are committed to developing innovative programs and service delivery to a diverse patient population. Through a team approach, we provide innovative inpatient and outpatient mental health services for the Southern Nevada community. Some of the valuable services we provide include Psychiatric Emergency Services, Inpatient Services, Mobile Crisis, Outpatient Counseling, Service Coordination, Intensive Service Coordination, Medication Clinic, Residential Support Programs, Mental Health Court, Consumer Advocacy and Programs for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) teams. Inpatient services are provided through the new Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital. Outpatient services are provided through three urban and four rural mental health clinics located throughout the community. SNAMHS is an exciting place to work with emphasis on utilizing the recovery model, developing innovative programs, increasing consumer and family involvement, educating the public through a variety of activities, and implementing a best practices clinical program. Mid-Level Medical Practitioners may be either Advanced Practitioners of Nursing or Physician Assistants who provide medical care in psychiatric settings. Advanced Practitioners of Registered Nursing (APRN) work within the scope of practice of an APRN and practice protocols as agreed upon by the collaborating physician and the APRN, as set forth in the Nurse Practice Act, Chapter 632 of the Nevada Revised Statutes and Administrative Code. Physician Assistants (PA) provide psychiatric care in accordance with approved medical protocols as allowed under the supervising physician's scope of practice and Nevada Revised Statutes. The position will assess and evaluate patients using knowledge and skill in psychiatric evaluation and the differential diagnosis of mental disorders in order to diagnose and recommend treatment and care in collaboration with Sr. Psychiatrist; prescribe medications by using standard pharmacological procedures in order to facilitate treatment and care of psychiatric patients; ability to maintain equanimity in the face of defiance, resistance, verbal and physical hostility; ensuring compliance with Joint Commission and CMS standards, as well as established laws, regulations and SNAMHS policies. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Licensure by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners or certification by the Nevada State Board of Osteopathic Medicine as a Physician Assistant; OR certification of recognition as an Advanced Practitioner of Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
Special Requirements
    Current certification of registration or license to prescribe from the Nevada Board of Pharmacy is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Licensure to prescribe controlled substances from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this series must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Current licensure by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners; certification by the Nevada State Board of Osteopathic Medicine as a Physician Assistant or certification of recognition as an Advanced Practitioner of Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse practitioner issued by the Nevada state board of Nursing is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

    This position requires psychiatric experience.
