The Position
Park Interpreters plan, organize, provide and supervise a variety of interpretive facilities, services and activities and assist in the operation and maintenance of an assigned State park.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located at Fort Churchill State Historic Park, near Silver Springs, Nevada. Fort Churchill State Historic Park is a well-known historic site that is also a popular spot for photography, hiking, camping, picnicking and equestrian activities. The Park has significant historical, cultural, natural and scenic resources. Candidates work under the general supervision of the Park Supervisor in all aspects of park operations including visitor services, interpretation, custodial services, building and grounds maintenance, fee collection, museum operations, Buckland Station/gift shop supervision and volunteer management. This position is responsible for developing, preparing and implementing interpretive programs and tours as well as managing and curating historic items and structures at a historic ranching site. The position recruits, trains and supervises park volunteers and subordinate seasonal staff. This position is responsible for submitting monthly and assigned reports, group area reservations, providing emergency medical assistance, informing public of park rules and regulations, and ensuring compliance with park rules and procedures. This position requires the use of general office equipment, four wheel drive vehicles, light farm/ranch equipment and basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Past Perfect Museum Software. Park Interpreters are required to work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays; and must be available to work special events and may have to respond to callouts or emergencies. Park housing is not available at this location.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major or minor in park management, outdoor recreation management, history/folklore, education, ecology, forestry, biology, agriculture, natural or environmental sciences, horticulture, wildlife management, museum management, business or public administration or related field and one year of professional park experience which included developing, managing and presenting interpretive and/or educational activities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Positions may be subject to call back and work various hours and/or shifts.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this class have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this class must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Positions require work on evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
