Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

This position supports SOUTHERN NEVADA ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (SNAMHS) in the Nursing Department. SNAMHS is an exciting place to work with emphasis on utilizing the recovery model, developing innovative programs, increasing consumer and family involvement, educating the public through a variety of activities, and implementing a best practices clinical program. Agency positions may be assigned to any SNAMHS work location, initially this position is anticipated to be assigned to Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital, located at 1650 Community College Dr, Las Vegas, NV.
Incumbent provides professional nursing care to mentally ill adult clients, and is an integral component of the clinical service team. Incumbent must actively participate in a multidisciplinary team, managing a wide variety of patients and diagnoses. Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying patient health care needs; making comprehensive clinical observations; prepare and document nursing care plans; administer medications; monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction. Serve as a first-line supervisor for the unit, providing work direction, resolving patient care and staffing issues, assign and review work, establish work performance standards, evaluate performance, provide coaching and discipline to assigned staff as needed. Will also function as the Hospital House Supervisor when needed. This is a full time position with a set 12 hour shift. Incumbents will be working an innovative variable schedule with overtime after 40 hours per week. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and three years of professional nursing experience, two of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or mental retardation; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.

CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
