The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Temporary, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Highway Maintenance Workers are certified by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to operate a variety of complex or specialized highway maintenance and construction equipment in order to restore and maintain the integrity of roadway surfaces; maintain roadside slopes, shoulders, culverts and ditches to restore drainage and prevent erosion; and repair or replace related roadway appurtenances such as guardrails, markers, guide posts and fences.
These positions are located in the Reno region to include; Reno, Sparks, Virginia City, Lovelock, Hawthorne, Fernley, Nixon, Yerington, Fallon and Cold Springs. Incumbents perform winter highway maintenance duties, including snow plow operation, anti-icing activities and assistance in emergency operations. Must have the ability to work independently. The majority of positions in this classification will be required to operate various types of heavy equipment. The hours for these positions are subject to change depending on the needs of the appointing authority and may be five 8 hour shifts or four 10 hour shifts.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
One year of general labor or semi-skilled work experience that
required the ability and dexterity to operate tools and equipment.
Special Requirements
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law requires random testing form controlled substances during employment.
Additional Position Criteria
These positions are used to maintain Nevada roads during the winter season. In order to be eligible for these positions, candidates must possess a Class A or B commercial driver's license with a Standard Transmission endorsement upon application.
This announcement is for temporary (maximum of six months) positions only. Applicant must indicate that they are willing to accept temporary work in order to be considered.
These positions requires an applicant be at least 18 years of age upon application. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required.
