The Position
Library Technicians/Assistants perform duties in support of the operation of libraries that house and provide access to a variety of materials in a variety of formats. Incumbents perform and/or supervise technical, paraprofessional and administrative duties within one or more functional areas of the library including acquisitions; cataloging; circulation; collection maintenance; document delivery/interlibrary loan; government documents; reference, serials and/or metadata, electronic resources, and digital services.
--The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Library Assistant II for the Libraries Department. The incumbent will greet patrons, check in-out library items, answer phones, give directions and answer patron inquiries, set up student schedules, publish weekly updates for students and staff, and ensure that student workers are properly trained on MARS and follow safety practices.
--The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm with occasional weekends; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. Pursuant to Nevada Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of six days (part-time prorated) per fiscal year effective July 1, 2013. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of library or clerical experience which included providing customer service; OR six months of experience as a Library Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires working occasional weekends.
    This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.
    This position requires customer service experience problem solving difficult situations.
