Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

This position is responsible for the following.
*review and approval of human health and ecological risk assessments;
*analyzing data and making risk assessment and risk management decisions;
*technical review of assessment documents;
*interpret the results of studies for Division staff in terms of toxicological/ecological effects of substances and associated hazards;
*develop and review work for Division staff on toxicological risk assessment protocol to be included in formal guidance;
*serve as project manager for assigned remedial action projects;
*review and approval of remediation plans; and
*provide technical guidance to program staff, the regulated community, and local governments.
Because this oversight work includes interfacing with the public concerning complex and sensitive issues, the position is responsible for problem solving, independent decision making, hazard communication, risk communication, and technical report writing. The position has responsibility for ensuring that site assessment and clean-up of released hazardous substances are protective of soil and groundwater resources and are protective of human health.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research, planning, and technical support; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position requires working experience reviewing and developing human health Risk Assessments.
|

| The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process. |

1) Describe your experience developing presentations and conducting public speaking to stakeholder groups.

|
2) Describe your experience with risk assessments/evaluations, risk communication; and the ability to balance data and risk uncertainties with the need for decision making and progress toward cleanup.

3) Describe your experience designing and conducting site assessments, investigations, inspections, and remediation.
|
|
4) Describe your experience sampling soil, groundwater, surface water, air, and other media for the potential presence of contaminants.
|
|
5) Describe your experience with water quality standards, watershed assessments, determining surface water flow properties, surface water flow modeling, evaluating surface water quality, and surface water quality modeling.

6) Describe your experience with groundwater quality standards, determining groundwater flow properties, groundwater flow modeling, evaluating groundwater quality data, groundwater quality modeling.

7) Describe your experience with selecting correct laboratory analysis, evaluating laboratory reports for completeness and usability, quality assurance / quality control programs and procedures.

8) Describe your experience with Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and/or equivalent state analogue cleanup statutes.
