The Position
Public Safety Dispatchers perform technical communications work in the operation of a district, central, or statewide communications center including but not limited to: providing assistance to law enforcement units in both routine and emergency situations; dispatching enforcement units and other emergency mobile units from a computerized dispatch center; researching various criminal justice records systems and transmitting the required information; placing telephone calls for officials and registered vehicle owners at accident scenes; providing assistance to other law enforcement agencies as requested; maintaining a variety of logs and records; and preparing statistical summaries on center activities.
PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER 6
The Public Safety Dispatcher VI oversees the activities of the three dispatch centers in the Department of Public Safety's Communications Bureau. The position will assist with managing operations and budgeting for the three dispatch centers. The position will serve as the department's representative in coordinating access to dispatch services by various department and other authorized local, State, federal and civil entities. The position will oversee the development of dispatch procedures and quality standards; draft and submit proposed legislation; may testify before various public bodies; analyze reports, resolve issues, and ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies. TRAVEL FROM LAS VEGAS TO CARSON CITY AND ELKO IS REQUIRED. *NOTE* Due to the Governor's Emergency Budget Action, all new hires into the state will be brought in at the beginning salary rate of a step 1 which is NOT NEGOTIABLE and does not reflect the deduction of the furlough hours. *NOTE* Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per fiscal year through June 30, 2015 (hire date pro-rated). The General Services Division does not conduct phone interviews. The recruitment is subject to close without notice until sufficient applications have been received.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Seven years of law enforcement communications experience, three years of which included supervising the personnel and operations of a public safety dispatch center; budget preparation and management; report preparation and data analysis; and program development and implementation; OR two years of experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher V in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Incumbents must pass the NCJIS/NCIC certification examination within six months of appointment and every two years thereafter as a condition of continuing employment.
    An extensive State and FBI background investigation to include fingerprinting is required.
    The incumbent is required to travel statewide.
    Incumbents are subject to call-out, call-back, shift work including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.

The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
