The Position
Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
*THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED* The incumbent of this position is a lead worker for the Landscape & Grounds Construction Crew. The primary duties of this position include, but are not limited to: perform supervisory duties and provide training to Grounds Maintenance Workers and Maintenance Repair Workers; maintenance of campus grounds, with work relating to parking lot and sidewalk maintenance; assist other trades regarding underground installation and general repairs; operate light equipment, to include backhoe, trencher, forklift, dump truck, compactor, core drill power saw, street sweeper and steam pressure washer; repairs to existing or new installation of concrete or other cast surfaces to include grading, compacting, forming, pouring, finishing and setting pavers; installation of both cold and hot asphalt using proper application techniques; maintenance and repair of outdoor fixtures, to include fences (block and chain link), lamps, lights (to include minor electrical wiring of controllers and lamps); installation of various types of signage (concrete, directional and roadway); underground utility locating; and blueprint reading. Work schedule is Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM. Per the Nevada State Legislature, classified employees are subject to six (6) mandatory unpaid furlough days through 6/30/14. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades and one year of journey level experience which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR one year of journey level experience as a Maintenance Repair Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
    Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.
Special Requirements
    A valid Class A commercial driver's license is required within 1 year of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Skills Required
    Successful candidate must be Asbestos Certified within 1 year of hire date.
